Armenia Becomes an Associate State of the CGPM

30 Jun 2026

On 17 June 2026, Armenia officially became an Associate State of the CGPM. This milestone marks the continuation of the country’s consistent efforts to strengthen its integration into the international measurement system.

An important contribution to this achievement was made through activities carried out within the framework of COOMET, including the COOMET Round Table “Challenges and Opportunities of the CIPM MRA”, held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, in September 2025, and continuous cooperation with partners from the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM).

This new status will allow Armenia to participate in the activities of the BIPM through representation at the General Conference and to join the CIPM Mutual Recognition Arrangement (CIPM MRA). In addition, Armenian specialists will gain access to BIPM capacity-building and e-learning activities.

Through the National Body for Standards and Metrology (ARMSTANDARD), Armenia is now eligible to join the CIPM MRA. Following its accession to the Arrangement, Armenia will be able to declare its Calibration and Measurement Capabilities (CMCs) and publish them in the global KCDB database, as well as make full use of the mechanisms for international recognition of measurement results provided under the CIPM MRA.

COOMET congratulates its colleagues at ARMSTANDARD and the entire metrological community of Armenia on this important and historic milestone and wishes them every success in making full use of these new opportunities and in further strengthening international metrological cooperation.
