On 17 August 2026, the Republic of Azerbaijan acceded to the Metre Convention and became a Member State of the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM), strengthening its participation in the international measurement system.
Prior to this, Azerbaijan had participated in BIPM activities as an Associate State of the CGPM since 2015.
Member State status enables Azerbaijan to fully participate in BIPM activities, including representation and voting at the General Conference on Weights and Measures (CGPM), and to contribute to the scientific and technical work coordinated through the BIPM.
COOMET congratulates colleagues from the Azerbaijan Metrology Institute (AzMİ) on this important achievement. Azerbaijan’s accession to the Metre Convention represents a significant step in the further development of its national metrology system and its integration into the international metrology infrastructure.
