COOMET Representatives Participated in the CIPM MRA Summer School for Chairs and Potential Chairs of RMO Technical Committees and Working Groups

From 30 June to 2 July 2026, the CIPM MRA Summer School for Chairs and Potential Chairs of Technical Committees and Working Groups of Regional Metrology Organizations (RMOs) took place at the headquarters of the Bureau International des Poids et Mesures (BIPM) in Sèvres, France.

The event brought together representatives of Regional Metrology Organizations from around the world to exchange experiences, discuss common challenges and share best practices in the implementation of CIPM MRA, as well as issues related to the international recognition of national measurement standards and Calibration and Measurement Capabilities (CMCs) and support for countries and economies with emerging metrology systems.

The programme of the Summer School focused on three key areas: international comparisons and CMC review, management of technical committees, and the operation of expert communities within RMOs.

The first day focused on international comparisons, CMC review procedures and the challenges faced by RMOs in this area. Particular attention went to the shortage of technical experts available for CMC review, which remains a common issue across many RMOs.

The second day focused on the management of technical committees, including meeting arrangements, frequency of meetings and practical aspects of coordinating committee activities. Participants also discussed the difficulties associated with organizing face-to-face meetings and the limitations of online interactions.

The third day focused on the structure and operation of expert communities within RMOs and on exchanging experience in organizing the activities of technical committees and working groups.

Each RMO delivered presentations covering comparisons and CMC review practices, technical committee management and approaches to organizing expert communities. As an outcome of the Summer School, a Good Practices document is planned to be prepared, containing recommendations on effective management of technical committees, organization of comparisons and implementation of CMC review.

The participation of COOMET representatives in the CIPM MRA Summer School contributes to further strengthening international cooperation, promoting the exchange of experience among Regional Metrology Organizations and improving the implementation of CIPM MRA.
